Further frustration for Dortmund, Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen slipped further off the pace in the Bundesliga as both had to settle for draws from away trips.

FC Bayern München's 6-1 win against SV Werder Bremen on Saturday was yet another impressive display from Jupp Heynckes' title-chasing side, and Dortmund could only cut their lead to 17 points after being held 1-1 at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

BVB went ahead on 31 minutes when Mario Götze was brought down by Marc-André ter Stegen in the area, with the midfielder stepping up to register from the spot. Amin Younes volleyed off target for the hosts, but the 19-year-old got his first Bundesliga goal with 23 minutes remaining by firing in from the edge of the area to deny Dortmund the win.

That gifted Leverkusen a chance to move into second spot, but they were unable to prevail at bottom-of-the-table SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Wolfgang Hesl needed to be on top form in the home goal as André Schürrle and Stefan Kiessling both went close numerous times. The Werkself pushed all the way, but, after Thursday's UEFA Europa League defeat at SL Benfica, they were unable to summon the energy to get over the line in Bavaria.
