Italian football is mourning the death of Professor Lamberto Perugia, a former long-standing UEFA Medical Committee member, who has passed away at the age of 85.
Professor Perugia was vastly respected in European football medical circles, in particular as a specialist in knee-related surgery and sports traumatology. He was a member of the UEFA Medical Committee from 1990 to 2002, and a member of the Amical des Anciens circle of former UEFA committee members in the subsequent years. Born in Rome, Professor Perugia was a passionate sports follower with professional links to AS Roma, and headed the medical sector of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
