Ligue 1 pursuers close gap on top three

Saturday 2 February 2013 21.55 CET
David Bellion feels the love after putting Bordeaux ahead against Valenciennes

FC Girondins de Bordeaux, OGC Nice and AS Saint-Étienne kept up their pursuit of third spot in Ligue 1, as all recorded victories to maintain their UEFA Champions League qualification hopes.

Bordeaux and Nice both sit four points behind Olympique de Marseille, with St-Étienne one further back, ahead of OM's game against AS Nancy-Lorraine on Sunday. Second-placed Olympique Lyonnais also play tomorrow, travelling to AC Ajaccio, aiming to go level on points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain FC, who overcame Toulouse FC 4-0 in Friday evening's fixture.

David Bellion converted from a corner 33 minutes into Bordeaux's 2-0 defeat of Valenciennes FC and Ludovic Obraniak doubled the lead after the break. Nemanja Pejčinović and a Brahim Ferradj own goal sealed the points for Nice at Stade Brestois 29, while Fabien Lemoine struck from range with 13 minutes to go at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard to seal a 2-1 win for St-Étienne.

The team who occupied fourth at the start of the day, Stade Rennais FC, ended it in seventh after a 2-2 draw at FC Lorient thanks to Axel N'Gando's 90th-minute goal.
