Valencia vanquish dogged Deportivo

Sunday 27 January 2013 0.00 CET
Ernesto Valverde's Valencia registered a dramatic late win

Ricardo Costa's added-time winner ensured Valencia CF overcame a determined RC Deportivo La Coruña 3-2 at El Riazor.

Jonas gave the visitors a dream start, looping a near-post header over Daniel Aranzubia from Pablo Piatti's corner after 30 seconds. Depor striker Riki turned the match on its head by the break, though, nodding in Pizzi's free-kick on 32 minutes and firing a low second from the edge of the box in added time at the end of the half.

However, shortly after the restart January signing Sílvio was given his marching orders for a second yellow card and it was not long before Valencia took advantage. Juan Bernat darted down the left and squared for Nelson Valdez to tuck in from close range.

A frantic six minutes of added time brought a winner for Blanquinegros, as Costa struck at the back post, and another Depor dismissal, when Paulo Assunção was shown a straight red card.

Elsewhere, a last-minute Ante Rukavina own goal ended Levante UD's disappointing recent run as they recorded a 2-1 win at home against Real Valladolid CF to move sixth in the table. Augusto Fernández was sent off as his RC Celta de Vigo side drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad de Fútbol, while Real Zaragoza versus RCD Espanyol finished goalless.
