Slaviša Stojanovič has resigned from his position as Slovenia coach

Slaviša Stojanovič has resigned as coach of Slovenia with his side having taken just three points from their first four FIFA World Cup Group E games.

"The World Cup qualifiers have not gone according to our wishes and expectations," admitted the 43-year-old, who replaced Matjaž Kek as Slovenia coach in October 2011. "As a coach, I am sorry that we were not really competitive in some matches, but certain circumstances were not on our side, and of course I feel responsible for current results. On the other hand, I am convinced that Slovenia are on the way to having a very successful new team."

Under Stojanovič, Slovenia played nine matches, winning two, drawing two and losing five. The Football Association of Slovenia (NZS) have yet to announce his replacement, but have until 22 March 2013 before the national team have their next competitive fixture, at home against Iceland.
