Hughes relieved of QPR duties

The Premier League's bottom club Queens Park Rangers FC have terminated the contract of manager Mark Hughes with immediate effect.

Hughes, 49, preserved the west London outfit's top-flight status last season after succeeding Neil Warnock in January, but has paid the price for failing to win any of the Hoops' 12 league matches this term.

The Loftus Road side are five points adrift of safety ahead of Saturday's visit to Manchester United FC, which will be overseen by Hughes's assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki.

A club statement said: "Mark has shown integrity and professionalism throughout his time here, but ultimately the circumstances we find ourselves in have left the board of directors with very little choice but to make a change."
