Napoli and Lazio fail to pounce on Juve slip

Sunday 4 November 2012 17.44 CET
Edinson Cavani's goal was not enough for Napoli to beat Torino

S.S. Lazio and SSC Napoli failed to take advantage of Juventus' defeat on Saturday as both Serie A contenders failed to win.

Lazio were fourth at the start of the day but were unable to move within six points of the lead as they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Calcio Catania. The visitors had no answer as two Alejandro Gómez strikes and Francesco Lodi's penalty made it 3-0 at the break, before Pablo Barrientos rounded off the scoring in the second half.

Meanwhile, Napoli were unable to cut the deficit to three points as they failed to win at home in the league for the first time this season. Edinson Cavani's sixth-minute goal appeared to have earned the points for the Partenopei against Torino FC, before Gianluca Sansone struck in added time.

ACF Fiorentina moved ahead of Lazio, into fourth, as goals from Gonzalo Rodríguez, Stevan Jovetić, Luca Toni and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado gave them a 4-1 triumph against Cagliari Calcio, while AS Roma lie sixth following a 4-1 defeat of US Città di Palermo. Elsewhere, Pescara defeated Parma 2-0 and UC Sampdoria's winless Serie A streak now stands at eight games following their 2-1 home loss to Atalanta BC.
